Hello, I am Dean. I’m from the Republic of Ireland. I came to Taipei to study Chinese and teach English. I was fortunate to get a job teaching at Taipei Language Institute (TLI) and have loved every minute of it so far. My Chinese is slowly improving I hope. I am finding it very interesting but also quite difficult. So why did I choose to study Chinese in Taiwan? I get asked this question a lot and the reason I came here was because my sister had recommended Taipei as a friendly and welcoming city to learn Chinese. So, I thought, why not take on a new challenge?
Once I got here, I got a job teaching English at TLI and this has been a wonderful experience. I have also took part in other extra-curricular activities such as Irish cultural event hosting, voice over recording, and even acting. The reason for the Irish cultural interactive events have been to inform people of the Irish culture and allow them to come and experience Ireland from a unique perspective.
In terms of acting, I got a small part in a local Taiwanese television drama called “When I see you again”. I was lucky to get the part as there were many people applying for the role. I enjoyed this immensely and it was a whole new experience for me here in Taipei. It was inspiring working with local Taiwanese actors as I learned so much from their professional work ethic. So, from acting to English teaching at TLI and everything else in between I am excited to see what is in store for me in 2016. Thank you!
